The View: A Quarantine Short Film

It’s been difficult to create anything new during this quarantine. Early on, I found myself going through my archives and editing old photos. However, I wanted to do something similar for the old videos on my hard drive as well.

So, I challenged myself to create something from the six-some years of footage that I have.

These are moments and memories I’ve captured on film throughout the years. With the current social climate, I wanted to create something personal that allowed me to rewatch and reminisce about these moments in time, and remember how I felt. These are some of the times where I’ve either felt happiest or most alive; these are feelings I don’t want to take for granted.

I purposely added a VHS effect to the film to make everything feel nostalgic, a distant memory. The same day I released the video, I had a Zoom workshop with some fellow filmmakers. When asked to describe what my film was about, they referenced words such as “nostalgic,” “feel-good,” and “a trip down memory lane.” It felt good to have the exact vibe I was going for be verbalized by other people who had no context before watching.
